Important message about COVID-19

The Norwegian government has now started easing up on some of the preventive actions on the corona pandemic. As it seems for the moment, it is likely that Norway will slowly reopen in the time to come. Our sailing courses and trips for June and July are therefore now available for booking. However, Seil Senja is monitoring the situation closely and will take any new changes from the authorities into consideration. For now, we have removed the deposit requirement when booking. You only have to pay by attendance. In addition, as an extra service for you, cancellation can be made up to 7 days before attendance (normally 14 days). This means you can start right ahead planning your participation in sailing activities.

With this sailing trip, we want to share the very unique experience in nature it is to sail on the west side of Senja, or on The Outer Side as we call it up here.

Here, in western direction, Senja ends in a spectacular way, where high and steep mountains dive into the great Norwegian sea. Outside here you will not meet land until you reach the east side of Greenland.

We will start our sailing trip talking about security on board. Then, we hoist the sails and head towards the characteristic mountain Teisten. At Teistneset lighthouse we turn the boat northeast in the direction of Bergsøyan. Here we will sail into a very special area and archipelago, which with its about 90 islands is now regulated as a landscape protected area. This is because of its rich birdlife, special strandflat and history.

When we pass through Bergsøyan, there is a great chance that we will meet puffins, common eiders and oystercatchers. On our way south at the eastern side of Bergsøyan, we will have a good view of the small village Skaland and the mountain Husfjellet, and also Finnkona in Bergsbotn with its special formations. From here we will sail the shipping route in the south and west direction back towards Hamn i Senja, before we are docking the boat safely with one more experience to remember. The entire trip is estimated to last for 2.5 – 3.5 hours.

On this sailing trip you can decide for yourself whether you want to participate as a crew during the sailing, or just sit back and let our experienced skipper do the job for you.

Surrounded by some of Norway’s most spectacular mountains on the west side of Senja, only pulled forward by the natural and eco-friendly forces of the wind, everything should be ready for a truly unique experience of nature which you will hardly forget.
